Established in 2011, Tim Johanson Productions is a UK-based production and general management company with a particular focus on new musicals for stage and screen.

They are dedicated to commissioning, developing, and presenting dynamic, and entertaining, new work. Based in London TJP works in the West End, Off West End, the wider UK and internationally.

Specialising in working with writers dedicated to new musical theatre, TJP takes a long term approach to the creation of new intellectual property with a big future.

ABOUT TIM

Tim Johanson is an award-winning producer based in the UK with a distinguished career in theatre. His work in the West End includes producing acclaimed productions such as Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York), and Dirty Great Love Story. At Trafalgar Studios, Tim’s productions have included The Wasp by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, the Olivier-nominated Four Minutes Twelve Seconds, and BU21 by Stuart Slade.

Tim’s portfolio extends beyond the West End, with notable works such as Superhero (winner of the Best New Musical at the Off West End Awards in 2017) and David Henry Hwang’s Chinglish (Park Theatre). He also served as a producer for the Olivier Awards from 2011 to 2016.

In film, Tim has worked as an Associate Producer on Adult Children (Donmar Warehouse and London Film Festival) and as an Executive Producer on Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York), which is currently in development with Binocular Productions.

Tim’s extensive experience also includes producing Dinner With Friends (Park Theatre), Port Authority (Southwark Playhouse), Wingman (Pleasance Edinburgh, Soho Theatre, and tour), Dirty Great Love Story (59e59 Theaters, New York), and The President and the Pakistani (Waterloo East Theatre).

As a general manager, Tim has worked on Captain Corelli’s Mandolin in the West End and on tour, Yellow Face by David Henry Hwang at the National Theatre and various new musical workshops. He served as GM for the transfer of the Fringe First-winning “Chef” by Sabrina Mahfouz to the Soho Theatre. 

Tim has developed and produced the new West End musical Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York) and has been working and developing new musicals for over 15 years. He is the founder of Sapling and Colt, a musical theatre artist development company that has fostered successful collaborations, including those between Jon Brittain and Matthew Floyd Jones whose work together includes Kathy & Stella

In addition to his producing work, Tim is the author of The Accidental Producer, a comprehensive guide for anyone who finds themselves unexpectedly organising a show.

THE TEAM

Kate McKeown – Assistant Producer

Kate graduated with a degree in Business & Management in Ireland before transitioning to the theatre industry in the UK. After earning her MA in Musical Theatre from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD), she worked as an actor for several years, simultaneously building her expertise as a dramaturg, producer, musical director, and associate director on numerous projects.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kate co-founded the successful radio station ‘Quarantine FM’ and began her journey into producing. In 2022, she joined Mercury Musical Developments and Musical Theatre Network, where she has produced various notable projects, including BEAM, the largest showcase of new musicals in the UK. Throughout her career, Kate has been a dedicated advocate for new writing. She actively supports and produces innovative new work with TJP.
